Authorities in central Greece launched an investigation on Thursday after a bag believed to contain human bones was discovered in a trash bin outside a public hospital, prompting an immediate security response.
The discovery was made early Thursday morning in the courtyard of a hospital in the city of Karditsa. Staff alerted authorities, triggering a rapid deployment of police officers to the scene, while a prosecutor was called in to oversee the investigation.
Officials are now examining how the bag ended up in the hospital’s waste area and under what circumstances the remains were discarded.
Initial assessments suggest there is no indication of criminal activity. According to early information, the bones are believed to have been buried in a cemetery for many years, though forensic analysis is expected to confirm their origin.
