The accounts of two women who encountered a 22-year-old national kickboxing champion have caused shock after he attacked both of them within about an hour in Marousi, northern Athens.
The attacks were reported on September 15.
The first attack took place at around 6 p.m. on Kifisias Avenue. A young woman left the company where she works and headed toward the underground parking garage when, according to her complaint, the 22-year-old followed her and attacked her from behind.
According to her account, he grabbed her by the neck, knocked her to the ground and repeatedly slammed her head against the marble floor. The woman lost consciousness and was taken to hospital, where she underwent surgery.
“I don’t remember much about that day. An unknown man attacked me and struck me on the ground. I’m going through a very difficult time. I’ve had surgery, and psychologically and physically I’m in terrible condition. It will take me time to calm down,” she said.
The second attack
Witnesses attempted to restrain the 22-year-old, but according to the same reports, he managed to escape.
A short time later, he attacked a second woman, 55, who was inside her car in an isolated area in Polydroso, Marousi.
According to her complaint, the suspect opened the driver’s door, grabbed her and dragged her out of the vehicle by force. He then took the car and drove away from the scene.
“He opens the driver’s door, grabbed me around my torso and pulled me out. We struggled for a few seconds, but he managed to get me out. I was afraid he might have some sharp object on him,” she said.
The woman suffered injuries to her left elbow and both knees and said she was also experiencing back pain.
The 22-year-old’s arrest
After the second attack, the 22-year-old abandoned the stolen car in Agia Paraskevi, northeastern Athens, and returned home.
The following day, his father contacted the authorities and told police that, according to what he knew, his son was the person who had attacked the two women.
Police officers went to the 22-year-old’s home and arrested him.
A case file was opened against him for robbery and dangerous bodily harm. After giving his statement and following a prosecutor’s order, he was remanded in custody and taken to Korydallos Prison.
