The last injured survivor of the deadly traffic accident in Timisoara, Romania, that claimed the lives of seven Greek soccer fans is expected to be repatriated to Greece, possibly as soon as Wednesday, according to Greek diplomatic authorities.

The 20-year-old man is hospitalized in stable condition at a university hospital in Timisoara, where he is being treated in a specialized trauma unit. Doctors have described his progress, one week after the crash, as encouraging.

Greek embassy officials said preparations are underway for an air transfer to the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki. The patient remains intubated, and doctors plan to keep him on respiratory support during the flight to avoid further strain on his condition.

According to the same information, the young man has already undergone surgery in Timisoara to stabilize his vertebrae and reduce swelling.

The accident, which occurred a week ago in the Romanian city, resulted in the deaths of seven supporters of the Greek soccer club PAOK. The 20-year-old is the third and final injured survivor who remained hospitalized in Romania following the crash.
