An operation by Greek Police’s (EL.AS) organized crimes unit on Wednesday reportedly resulted in the arrest of six Turkish nationals, the latest raid aimed at alleged members of crime gangs active in the neighboring country, and of late, in Greece.
“Settling of scores” in Greece between Turkey-based criminal organizations, some comprised of ethnic Kurds, has over the past few years led to several gangland-style slaying and even a shootout with police near Thessaloniki.
The six arrests on Wednesday in and around the greater Athens area were for drug and weapons offenses.
In an unrelated incident, a 25-year-old Turkish national was arrested at the Athens International Airport on Tuesday morning on an international warrant for complicity in a homicide that occurred in Istanbul in October 2022.
