Major GHB Bust in Central Athens

The 38-year-old man was stopped by police as he walked away from the square, whose surrounding streets are amongst the grittiest in the Greek capital’s inner city

A major cache of the “club drug” GHB, alternately known as the euphoric “ecstasy”, to the tune of 106 grams, was confiscated from a man arrested near Omonia square in central Athens in the early morning hours of Tuesday.

The specific drug, which first emerged on the “club scene” in the United States in the mid-1980s, has been found to impair spatial memory and working memory, among many other side-effects.

The 38-year-old man was stopped by police as he walked away from the square, whose surrounding streets are amongst the grittiest in the Greek capital’s inner city.

The specific cache of GHB (Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate) was in liquid form, or “liquid ecstasy”, meaning it was more potent and usually mixed with alcohol.
