A 48-year-old man has been ordered into pre-trial detention in western Greece after being charged with the attempted abduction of a four-year-old girl in the village of Kakóvatos, near the town of Zacháro.
According to judicial authorities, both the investigating magistrate and the public prosecutor agreed on the pre-trial incarceration of the suspect, a national of Albania, following his deposition.
Alleged Attempt to Demand Ransom
As reported by Greek media, the accused admitted during questioning that his intention was to take the child and later demand a ransom from her family. He allegedly planned to use the money to return to his home country.
Violent Attempt to Snatch Child
The incident occurred while the young girl was with her mother and another relative in the Kakóvatos area. The suspect reportedly appeared suddenly and attempted to forcibly snatch the child from her mother’s arms.
During the struggle, the man is said to have caused physical injuries to a family member who tried to intervene and prevent the abduction.
Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances of the case, while the suspect remains in custody. No further details about the condition of the child or the injured relative were released at this time.
