A 46-year-old man has reported to Greek authorities that four unidentified people attempted to kidnap him in Argyroupoli, a southern suburb of Athens, before one of the attackers shot him in the shoulder.
The incident occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. Monday on Gravias Street, according to Greek public broadcaster ERT, following an earlier confrontation late Sunday night.
According to the man’s account to authorities, the four people approached him and tried to force him into a passenger car. When he resisted, one of the attackers shot him in the shoulder.
The man suffered a through-and-through gunshot wound.
Victim drove himself to hospital
After the attack, the 46-year-old drove himself to a hospital, where he remains hospitalized in stable condition and out of danger.
He described what happened to both doctors and authorities.
According to his account, the shooting occurred as the attackers were leaving the scene.
Police investigating circumstances
The local Security Department is conducting the preliminary investigation into the incident.
Authorities are seeking to establish the exact circumstances of the shooting and determine whether the events unfolded as described by the 46-year-old.
