Manhunt in Greece After Woman Killed in Domestic Violence Case

A 40-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing his wife in front of their children remains missing, with police investigating whether he may have taken his own life

Authorities in Greece are searching for a 40-year-old man accused of killing his wife in the coastal city of Volos, in a case that has shocked the local community and added to the growing toll of femicides in the country.

The suspect allegedly stabbed his 36-year-old wife during a violent argument inside their home, in full view of their children. According to police reports, the woman attempted to escape but was fatally wounded near the entrance of the apartment building. She was transported to hospital but died en route.

After the attack, the man fled the scene barefoot, reportedly carrying a sharp object. Witnesses described seeing him running and shouting that he was being chased.

Police have since launched a large-scale manhunt. Investigators are also examining the possibility that the suspect may have committed suicide, given his history of a previous attempt two months ago, when he was hospitalized in a psychiatric clinic.

The 40-year-old is known to authorities for a lengthy criminal record, including charges related to forgery, drug possession, and participation in an organized crime group. He had also faced deportation proceedings last year.

Neighbors reported frequent arguments between the couple, while police confirmed the woman had previously expelled her husband from their home, only to later allow him back. The couple’s children remain under the care of their 18-year-old sister.

A neighbor who witnessed the aftermath described the scene as “horrific,” recalling shattered glass and the victim lying in a pool of blood.

According to police sources, the family had been struggling with financial difficulties. The suspect also reportedly struggled with drug problems and had recently expressed paranoid suspicions about his wife’s fidelity.
