Another case of femicide unfolded in Greece this week, this time in the northern Greece city of Thessaloniki, when a 54-year-old man stabbed his 44-year-old wife multiple times before committing suicide by jumping from their apartment balcony. The shocking crime has left the couple’s two daughers, the local community and authorities searching for answers.

According to reports, the murder occured on March 12 when the woman’s husband attacked her in their apartment. The victim managed to reach the balcony, injured and bleeding, and attempted to call for help, before her husband pulled her back inside and continued the brutal attack until she succumbed to her injuries. Shortly after, he took his own life by leaping from their second-floor residence.

The couple had two daughters, aged 16 and 21, and the younger daughter was at school at the time of the crime.

Authorities are investigating possible motives, and are examining the couple’s mobile phones for clues.

Neighbors expressed shock, stating that the couple had lived in the building for about a year and had never exhibited signs of domestic strife.

The case has reignited concerns over domestic violence and femicide in Greece, with activists urging stronger protective measures for women at risk.
