The sudden death of a 48-year-old anesthesiologist inside the hospital in Mesolongi has brought grief to the local medical community and the wider town.
The doctor was found dead in the morning, inside the on-call room. According to initial reports, a colleague who arrived to take over the shift came upon the tragic scene, finding him unresponsive under the bed.
“He Had No Health Problems”
According to Michalis Giannakos, president of POEDIN (the Federation of Hospital Doctors’ Unions), the 48-year-old had been on a regular on-call shift and had taken part without any issue in the hospital’s surgical and nursing schedule the night before.
The deceased was married and the father of an 8-year-old child. According to the same sources, he had no significant medical history and no known health problems.
A forensic examination (autopsy) is expected to shed light on the exact cause of the doctor’s unexpected death.
