A flight from the United Kingdom bound for Antalya, in Turkey, was forced to make an emergency landing at Thessaloniki’s “Macedonia” airport on Monday night. Sept. 1, after a violent altercation broke out between two passengers.
According to police, a 35-year-old British man suddenly turned aggressive mid-flight and, for reasons still unknown, attacked a 41-year-old Turkish passenger. Reports indicate that the Briton repeatedly punched the other traveler during the incident.
For safety reasons, the crew diverted the aircraft to Thessaloniki, where officers from the Airport Security Department boarded the plane and arrested the 35-year-old, as reported by local news outlet thestival.
The 41-year-old victim was examined by a doctor, who confirmed he was fit to continue his journey.
The arrested passenger is expected to appear before a prosecutor. He faces charges including dangerous interference with transportation, bodily harm, disobedience, and disturbing the peace.
