Mother Under Investigation After Toddler’s Death in Paleo Faliro

Authorities suspect the woman attempted to erase evidence. A plastic bag was recovered containing the clothes she wore that night, some of her children's garments, a broken hairbrush, and an empty blister pack of medication used for anxiety and seizures

Greek authorities are intensifying their investigation into the tragic death of a 3-year-old girl, whose body was discovered on Edem Beach in Paleo Faliro. The 32-year-old mother of the child has been charged with intentional homicide and domestic abuse and is currently in custody.

Mobile Phone Under Investigation

Central to the investigation is the woman’s mobile phone, which may hold key information about her actions and communications after allegedly leaving her child on the beach. Authorities are tracing contacts she reached out to in the hours following the incident.

Notably, the woman contacted the Algerian embassy, expressing her wish to return to her country with her two sons. She was directed to contact the International Organization for Migration, with whom she scheduled an appointment—an appointment that never took place due to her arrest.

Communication With Sister and Attempt to Flee

Investigators also revealed that the woman made repeated phone calls to her sister, reportedly confiding what had occurred. After the mother’s arrest, the sister contacted the Algerian embassy in an effort to secure legal representation for her.

Authorities suspect the woman attempted to erase evidence. A plastic bag was recovered containing the clothes she wore that night, some of her children’s garments, a broken hairbrush, and an empty blister pack of medication used for anxiety and seizures. The brush is now being examined to determine if it was the object that left visible bruises on the child.

The Testimony of Her Two Sons

The woman’s two sons may play a critical role in the case. According to reports, they accompanied their mother and sister to the beach from their home in Kato Patissia. However, they returned home without the little girl. The mother told them she had handed the toddler over to a friend. Surveillance footage and the children’s account indicate that the mother concealed the stroller in bushes before fleeing the scene.

Charges Filed

On Saturday, August 2, prosecutors formally charged the mother with premeditated murder of a minor family member and repeated acts of domestic violence against a defenseless victim. The case file reportedly includes not only her own statements but also witness testimony regarding previous incidents of abuse—one of which involved a neighbor—contributing to the decision to bring forward domestic violence charges.

The investigation continues, with authorities examining digital evidence, witness accounts, and physical findings to determine the full circumstances behind this deeply disturbing case.
