New surveillance footage has emerged in the investigation into the murder of prominent Greek criminal lawyer Stavros Georgiou, showing the 28-year-old suspect leaving the victim’s office carrying a laptop shortly after the fatal attack.
The Egyptian national, who has confessed to the killing according to authorities, is seen calmly leaving the law office in central Athens with Georgiou’s laptop, which investigators say he later sold for €50.
The suspect has been formally charged with intentional homicide, theft and illegal stay in Greece. He has been granted until Monday, July 27, to appear before an investigating magistrate and respond to the charges.
According to investigators, when questioned about his movements after the killing, the suspect told police: “I was wandering around. I didn’t know where to go.”
During searches carried out by police, including at the home of the suspect’s brother, officers recovered the trousers they believe he was wearing at the time of the crime.
Previous Asylum Applications
Authorities said the suspect first applied for asylum in Greece in 2023, but the request was rejected. A second application submitted in 2024 was also denied, with the final decision being served in late 2025.
Police also said an arrest warrant had been outstanding against the 28-year-old since May 2026 in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a minor dating back two years.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the killing, with particular focus on establishing the motive behind the fatal attack on the well-known lawyer.
The newly released surveillance footage is expected to form part of the evidence in the ongoing investigation.
