After days of heavy rainfall across western Greece and the wider Athens region, conditions are improving — but only temporarily. According to forecasts, a new storm system is expected to sweep across the country from Wednesday or Thursday next week, bringing rain, falling temperatures, and strong winds.
Meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis warned that while the weekend will see milder, mostly clear weather, the respite will be short-lived as another spell of instability moves in from the northwest.
Milder Weather Before the Next Storm
For now, most regions can expect clear skies with occasional clouds and slightly higher daytime temperatures. Winds will blow from the northwest at 3 to 5 Beaufort, occasionally reaching 6 Beaufort in the northern Aegean early in the day.
Temperatures are forecast to reach around 21°C in northern Greece and 22–23°C in most other areas, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY).
- Athens: Mostly clear with light clouds until midday, temperatures between 12°C and 23°C.
- Thessaloniki: Clear skies, light to moderate northwesterly winds, temperatures 11°C to 21°C.
- Western Greece: Mostly sunny, with mild conditions and light winds up to 5 Beaufort over the Ionian Sea.
Weekend Outlook
The weekend will remain largely dry and pleasant, with daytime highs reaching 24–25°C in some eastern mainland regions. However, occasional clouds are expected in western Greece and Macedonia, while visibility may be reduced in parts of the Ionian and mainland Greece during early morning and evening hours.
Winds will shift northerly, reaching up to 6 or 7 Beaufort in the Aegean by Saturday, though temperatures are not expected to change significantly.
By Sunday, skies will be partly cloudy in eastern Greece, with light showers possible over the Sporades and northern Evia, while the rest of the country remains mostly clear.
Forecast Summary
- Short-term: Gradual clearing and slight temperature rise.
- Weekend: Mild and mostly sunny, with occasional clouds.
- Midweek: New weather front bringing rain, colder air, and stronger winds.
After a brief break in the unsettled conditions, Greece appears set to face another round of autumnal weather by mid-next week.
