A fatal accident occurred in Athens on Monday afternoon when a private ambulance overturned in the central Athens district of Goudi, after it was struck by another vehicle, resulting in the death of the patient it was transporting.
The 50-year-old man was being returned to his residence from a hospital after undergoing dialysis treatment when the collision occurred.
Following the crash, the man was rushed to nearby Laiko Hospital with a head injury but did not survive.
The ambulance crew members were also transferred to the same hospital with minor injuries. Authorities temporarily halted traffic near the intersection, while emergency services carried out an investigation.
Initial reports have the second vehicle running a stop sign and crashing into the ambulance.
