A rare octopus made a surprise appearance off Almyropotamos Beach on the Greek island of Evia (Euboea), astonishing beachgoers who witnessed the unusual marine encounter.
The species, known as the blanket octopus (Tremoctopus), is distinguished by its large size and the distinctive membrane connecting its arms. This unique feature gives it the appearance of a billowing blanket as it moves through the water.
The striking sea creature was spotted just a short distance from the shoreline, offering swimmers a rare and mesmerizing spectacle. Many rushed to photograph the unusual visitor.
Images captured by those at the beach highlight the octopus’ remarkable size and distinctive appearance—an extraordinary sight that is rarely seen so close to the coast.
The blanket octopus typically inhabits much deeper waters, making its appearance in the shallow waters of Almyropotamos all the more remarkable and noteworthy.
