Greeks get their daily news mainly from the Internet, according to a comprehensive report published by DataReportal – Global Digital Insights.

The report reveals that approximately 82% of Greece’s population uses the internet daily, a percentage below the European average (86%). The report notes that Greeks seek immediacy, seriousness (no clickbait titles and topics), uniqueness, and speed when searching for news sources.

According to the findings, there were 8.90 million internet users in Greece at the start of 2024, when internet penetration stood at 86.2 percent.

Greece was home to 7.40 million social media users in January 2024, equivalent to 71.7 percent of the total population.

Data published in the ad planning tools of top social media platforms indicates that there were 6.59 million users aged 18 and above using social media in Greece at the start of 2024, which was equivalent to 76.6 percent of the total population aged 18 and above at that time.

More broadly, 83.1 percent of Greece’s total internet user base (regardless of age) used at least one social media platform in January 2024.

At that time, 49.5 percent of Greece’s social media users were female, while 50.5 percent were male.

YouTube users in Greece in 2024

Google’s advertising resources indicate that YouTube had 7.40 million users in Greece in early 2024.
