Sailing Ban Lifted for Saturday, Gale-Force Winds Up to Beaufort 8 in the Aegean

Ferries returned to their normal operating schedule on Saturday, but gale-force winds continue in the Aegean

Ferries to the islands are running as normal on Saturday after the sailing ban was lifted, according to the Piraeus Port Authority. Gale-force northerly winds of up to 8 Beaufort are expected in the Aegean, while temperatures will remain stable, reaching 37–38°C in parts of western mainland Greece.

Meanwhile, the wildfire that began in Keratea and spread to Palaia Fokaia continues to burn. A new front broke out before dawn in Agios Nikolaos, Anavyssos, triggering emergency alerts to residents there in the morning of Saturday, as well as in Mavro Lithari and Charvalo.

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) forecasts generally clear skies across the country. Winds will blow from the north at 4–5 Beaufort in the west, up to 6 Beaufort in the Ionian, 6–7 Beaufort in the east, and locally 8 Beaufort in the Aegean.

Temperatures will peak at 34–36°C in most areas, locally 37–38°C in the west, while in the Cyclades, Sporades, and northern Crete they will not exceed 30–32°C.

Regionally, the strongest winds are expected in Evia, eastern Central Greece, and eastern Peloponnese, where gusts may reach Beaufort 8. The Dodecanese and eastern Aegean islands will see highs of up to 36°C, while Athens can expect 35°C and Thessaloniki 35°C under sunny skies.

Travelers are advised to check with ferry companies and port authorities before departure, as strong winds may still cause delays or cancellations in some areas.
