As the new school year approaches, Greek families are beginning to shop for the supplies students will need for the year ahead.
Prices for basic school supplies are generally at similar levels to last year, although the total cost will ultimately depend on each student’s individual needs and preferences.
According to a price survey conducted by ERTnews Radio 105.8, the average cost of basic school supplies is estimated at about €100 to €120 per child.
The estimate does not include essential equipment such as a school backpack, water bottle or lunch container.
Indicative prices for school supplies
The survey found the following prices for some of the main school supplies:
- School backpack: Prices start at €15 and can reach €100, depending on the design and brand.
- Classic blue notebook, 50 sheets: From €0.49.
- Math notebook: Between €1.59 and €2.50.
- Essay notebook: Between €0.80 and €2.
- Two-subject spiral notebook: From €1 to €8.
- Watercolor pad: Between €2.25 and €15, with an average price of €3.50.
- 12-piece marker set and paintbrush set: Prices start at €2.50 and can reach €10.
The figures provide an indication of current market prices, while the final amount families spend will vary according to the products they choose and the supplies required for each student.
