Greece is preparing to make a supplementary payment of an emergency child benefit of €150 per eligible child, with more than 80,000 families expected to receive the money by Monday, Aug. 31, at the latest.

The payment follows the completion of final eligibility checks, which could be finished Friday. The new payment concerns families who met the requirements but were not included in the first round, as well as families whose household gained a new child whose information had not yet been added to the relevant electronic systems.

Who is eligible for the payment

The supplementary review primarily concerns beneficiaries who were left out of the initial payment because their children’s information was not incorporated into the databases used to verify eligibility in time.

It also covers families that welcomed a new child whose details had not been processed when the initial payment was calculated.

Particular attention is being given to children born between Jan. 1, 2025, and July 31, 2026, as additional procedures are required to complete the electronic cross-checks needed for payment.

The benefit is expected to be paid automatically, without a new application, provided that recipients meet the eligibility requirements and their information is complete and up to date.

How much families can receive

The amount depends on the number of eligible children:

  • One eligible child: €150
  • Two eligible children: €300
  • Three eligible children: €450

Families can therefore receive up to €450 if they have three eligible children.

Requirements for children born in 2025

For children born during 2025, the child must be correctly listed as a dependent in the timely tax return for the 2025 tax year.

The child’s AMKA, Greece’s Social Security Registration Number, must also have been correctly declared.

In addition, the beneficiary must have an active and valid IBAN registered with the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) so the payment can be credited.

If the required checks have been completed and the family meets the income and other eligibility criteria, there is no need to submit a new application.

What changes for children born in 2026

Families with children born between Jan. 1 and July 31, 2026, face additional requirements for the electronic verification process.

A key requirement is obtaining a tax identification number (AFM) for the child so that the necessary electronic cross-checks can be completed.

There must also be a finalized birth registration record, and the child’s AFM and AMKA must be correctly matched.

Any discrepancies in personal information or outstanding administrative procedures could prevent a family from being included in the supplementary payment.
