Shark Surprise Off the Coast of Boeotia

Although the initial sight caused some concern, the animal displayed no aggressive behavior, lingering briefly in the shallows before calmly swimming away.

Residents and visitors in the seaside settlement of Aspro Spitia, in Boeotia, were stunned after spotting a small shark swimming in the shallow coastal waters. The unusual encounter, captured on video, quickly drew attention and sparked both surprise and fascination among beachgoers.

The footage clearly shows the shark moving just a few meters from the shore, remarkably close to swimmers. Although the initial sight caused some concern, the animal displayed no aggressive behavior, lingering briefly in the shallows before calmly swimming away.

According to local reports, the shark is believed to have been a juvenile blue shark (Prionace glauca). The species is among the most common sharks found in the Mediterranean Sea, though sightings so near the coastline remain relatively rare.

Marine experts note that blue sharks are generally not considered dangerous to humans. In many cases, younger sharks that enter shallow waters are thought to have become disoriented.

Similar sightings have been recorded in other parts of Greece in recent years, adding to growing public curiosity about marine wildlife appearing closer to populated beaches.
