Cabbie Arrested for Demanding 310€ For Airport to Center Ride

Police later ascertained that the 20-year-old, who was arrested, lacked a license to work as a taxi driver, while the vehicle's meter was out of commission

A 20-year-old man working as a taxi driver without a proper license was arrested in central Athens on Friday for attempting to overcharge a passenger he picked up at the Athens Airport eight times more than the usual fare.

The passenger, a female tourist according to reports, immediately contacted police when the young driver demanded 310 euros for taking her from the airport to central Athens. Her description and the vehicle’s license plate, which she recorded, led to the man’s arrest shortly thereafter.

A subsequent investigation revealed that the taxi meter in the vehicle was out of commission, while the driver did not have a license to work as a cab driver.

The suspect was led before a relevant prosecutor.
