A violent altercation involving minors took place on Tuesday, May 26, in the Toumba district of Thessaloniki, according to Greek police authorities.
Police said a 15-year-old allegedly first attacked a 13-year-old boy before other minors became involved in the incident. During the confrontation, a 14-year-old was reportedly punched in the face and back by an unidentified individual whom the 15-year-old had allegedly called to the scene.
Authorities arrested the 15-year-old on Wednesday, May 27, while the 14-year-old was taken to hospital, where he remains under medical care.
The mother of the arrested teenager claimed her son was not the aggressor, alleging that “they started chasing him with an iron bar and a belt to beat him.”
The 15-year-old appeared before a prosecutor earlier today and was later released. He reportedly stated that he did not start the fight but instead tried to separate three individuals, adding that a friend of his later arrived at the scene and struck the 14-year-old.
Greek police are continuing their preliminary investigation in an effort to clarify the exact circumstances of the incident and determine the role of those involved.
