Greek Police (EL.AS) on Monday reported the arrest of 10 people, aged between 18 and 48, for a series of thefts and vandalism at a Public Power Corp. (PPC) plant outside the town of Megalopoli, in the central Peloponnese, with losses exceeding 400,000 euros.
The suspects, according to authorities, comprised a criminal gang that systematically looted the industrial complex, at least since 2024, of equipment and metal wiring. The thefts and vandalism caused temporary or medium-term interruptions of operation at the lignite-fired unit.
What’s also noteworthy in this case is the fact that most instances of stolen equipment and materiel were only ascertained during the police investigation and had not been previously reported to authorities.
A voluminous indictment will be conveyed to the judiciary, although the investigation is continuing.
