Three Forest Fires Burning in Greece

According to reports, a wildfire is burning through a pine-covered area at Troezen, sending thick smoke across the region, the fire service said on Thursday.

First responders are trying to put out forest fires that broke out on Thursday afternoon in three areas in Greece: one near the coastal town of Preveza on the northwestern coast of Greece, a second near the Zagoria region in Ioannina, and a third near the small town of Troezen in the northeastern Peloponnese.

Ten firefighters, supported by a ground unit and two fire engines, have been dispatched to the scene. An aircraft is also assisting, with a helicopter conducting water drops.

A forest fire broke out a little later near Preveza, while the civil protection directorate urged residents to remain alert via mobile phones connected to the 112-text system.

A total of twenty-two firefighters, a foot unit, assisted by two airplanes and a firefighting helicopter, are trying to extinguish the blaze.
