First responders are trying to put out forest fires that broke out on Thursday afternoon in three areas in Greece: one near the coastal town of Preveza on the northwestern coast of Greece, a second near the Zagoria region in Ioannina, and a third near the small town of Troezen in the northeastern Peloponnese.
A wildfire is burning through a pine-covered area at Troezen, sending thick smoke across the region, the fire service said on Thursday.
Ten firefighters, supported by a ground unit and two fire engines, have been dispatched to the scene. An aircraft is also assisting, with a helicopter conducting water drops.
A forest fire broke out a little later near Preveza, while the civil protection directorate urged residents to remain alert via mobile phones connected to the 112-text system.
A total of twenty-two firefighters, a foot unit, assisted by two airplanes and a firefighting helicopter, are trying to extinguish the blaze.
