Weather Disruptions Halt Ferry Departures from Piraeus

Strong southerly winds in the Aegean Sea have forced authorities to suspend several ferry services from Greece’s main port, with cancellations also affecting routes in nearby region

Several ferry services departing from Piraeus, Greece’s largest and busiest port serving the Aegean islands, have been suspended due to adverse weather conditions, according to local authorities. Forecasts of strong southerly winds in the Aegean Sea prompted precautionary measures to ensure passenger safety.

As a result, multiple scheduled sailings from Piraeus were cancelled on Monday morning. The affected routes include services to popular island destinations in the Cyclades, which are heavily dependent on stable weather conditions for safe navigation.

Among the suspended departures are a morning ferry bound for Paros, Naxos, and Santorini, an early service to Syros, Tinos, and Mykonos, as well as an afternoon sailing covering several central Aegean islands before continuing to southern destinations.

Weather-related disruptions were also reported outside Athens. In central Greece, ferry services from two mainland ports to nearby islands were cancelled early in the morning due to strong winds in the surrounding sea area.

Passengers planning to travel are advised to contact local port authorities or ferry operators for the latest updates, as schedules may change depending on weather conditions.
