Greece’s weather is set to shift over the coming days, with showers and localized thunderstorms expected mainly in inland and mountainous regions, according to meteorologist Sakis Arnaoutoglou’s forecast.
On Tuesday, rain and storms will appear on and off, intensifying around midday and in the afternoon. The mountainous areas of Macedonia, western and northern Thessaly, Epirus, western Central Greece, and the western Peloponnese will see the biggest impact. These are expected to be short-lived, gradually easing off by evening.
Meanwhile, northerly winds in the Aegean will pick up, reaching 5 to 6 on the Beaufort scale. Despite the instability, temperatures will stay high for the season, hitting as much as 36°C in some areas.
Wednesday And Thursday
More localized rain and showers are possible on Wednesday, mainly in the western and northern parts of the country around midday, with unsettled conditions continuing from Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning.
Thursday looks more unsettled inland in the Peloponnese, in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of Central Greece, and in Thessaly, Macedonia, and Thrace, with showers and localized storms expected.
Brief weather activity is also expected early Friday morning, with showers affecting the Sporades and northern Evia. Conditions should then gradually improve.
The Weekend
Saturday looks set for generally good weather, and based on current forecasts, no significant rain is expected through around September 10-11.
From Sunday, temperatures are expected to climb again, turning quite hot to very hot.
High temperatures look set to continue into the first days of September, with the heat staying strong through mid-month, according to Arnaoutoglou’s forecast.
