Police in the central Greek city of Volos are investigating a new case of femicide after a 36-year-old mother of four was found dead on Friday morning (August 22) at the entrance of her apartment building.
According to reports, the woman died from severe blood loss after being violently attacked, with injuries caused either by a knife or by being thrown against the glass entrance of the building.
Suspect fled after the attack
Authorities suspect that her husband, a 40-year-old man of Albanian origin, was responsible. He allegedly assaulted her in front of their daughter and then fled the scene, prompting an active manhunt. Witnesses reported hearing the couple arguing earlier in the morning.
The family lived on Konstantá Street in Volos, near the intersection of Gatsou and Gladstonos Streets. A passerby later reported seeing the suspect on the balcony of the couple’s second-floor apartment before fleeing the area.
Witness accounts
Shocking details have emerged from neighbors and family members. The couple’s young daughter reportedly called emergency services in distress, crying out for help after witnessing the attack. “I saw dad stabbing mom with a knife,” she is said to have told rescuers.
Emergency services (EKAV) arrived about 20 minutes later, but the victim was already dead by the time paramedics reached her.
Investigation underway
Police have cordoned off the area and continue to search for the suspect. Unconfirmed reports suggest the man may have been a drug user and had attempted suicide earlier this year.
The killing has deeply shaken the local community and adds to a troubling series of femicides that have raised urgent calls for stronger protections for women in Greece.
