Greek authorities launched a security operation in the Athens suburb of Marousi after a suspected World War II shell was discovered in an empty lot late Thursday.
Specialized explosive ordnance teams were immediately dispatched to the scene to assess the object and secure the area. According to initial estimates, the shell is believed to date back to World War II.
Military experts are expected to oversee the safe removal and disposal of the explosive device once inspections are completed.
As a precaution, traffic restrictions and road diversions were introduced in nearby streets while the operation remains underway on Thursday.
Authorities said the measures were implemented to ensure the safety of residents and passing motorists until the shell is removed from the site.
