Yoga Instructor Arrested Over Car Bomb Attacks in Greece

Police say the 56-year-old targeted acquaintances’ vehicles with incendiary devices after they refused to lend her money, leaving one man seriously injured.

A 56-year-old yoga instructor has been arrested in Greece on suspicion of carrying out a series of car bomb attacks against friends, relatives, and neighbors who had refused to lend her money, according to police.

Authorities say the woman carried out three attacks within 12 days, allegedly placing improvised incendiary devices on victims’ vehicles. The most recent incident occurred on January 29, when she allegedly targeted a neighbor’s car after the neighbor declined to lend her money and host her. Investigators believe the suspect acted out of revenge.

In one of the attacks in the Nea Erythraia area, an explosion seriously injured a car owner, who suffered burns and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Officers who responded to the scene found remnants of a homemade device made from a small gas canister, gasoline, and cloth. Video of that explosion captured the vehicle owner trying to put out the fire.

Police say the suspect was familiar with making and placing such devices for at least a decade, dating back to an earlier attack on her own father’s car.

Investigators also examined the woman’s cryptic social media posts as part of the case. It later emerged that she had previously been hospitalized multiple times in psychiatric clinics for periods of about 20 days. Following her arrest on the 31st of the month, authorities ordered her pre-trial detention and psychiatric hospitalization.

Her lawyer said the suspect denies all charges, including arson and causing serious bodily harm. The attorney confirmed that her client has been diagnosed with a long-term mental illness and has undergone involuntary hospitalizations in the past.

According to relatives cited in the investigation, the woman received significant financial support from her parents, had her own apartment, and worked as a yoga instructor.
