Piraeus lit up with fireworks and illuminated buildings on Sunday, part of the three-day celebrations marking the centennial anniversary of the founding of Olympiacos, Europe’s most successful multi-sports organization and the most popular club in Greece.

Monday, March 10, of course, marks the exact day on which 100 years ago that Olympiacos was founded in the Greece’s largest port city, Piraeus.

Olympiacos FC has called on fans in Greece and around the world to illuminate their homes, plazas and spaces at 19.25 (17.25 GMT) to mark the 1925 date. The specific time, 19.25, will also see the commencement of the biggest drone show ever seen in Greece, with the sky over Piraeus to light up, and with visibility throughout the greater Athens-Piraeus area.

On Sunday, fireworks welcomed fans and residents, coinciding with Olympiacos FC’s easy 1-0 victory over OFI Crete in Super League play, a result that leaves Olympiacos first in the standings heading into the playoffs and seven points from its nearest rival.

Landmarks in Piraeus were also illuminated over the weekend, including the office tower in the center of the port city and the Municipal Theater, and will continue to be illuminated on Monday evening.
