The Greek women’s national water polo team failed to reach the 2026 Euro final after losing to Hungary in the first semi-final match in Portugal on penalties (12-11).
In a closely contested game, the Greek team trailed Hungary for most of the regular time but managed to overturn a two-goal deficit 30 seconds before the end, with the two teams drawing at 8 goals each.
The two teams were led to a penalty shootout, and Greece held a one-goal advantage after Hungary missed the first shot. Shooting second, Greece ended the match with two missed penalties, the 4th and 5th, losing the game.
The Greek team will now play for 3rd spot against the winner of the match between the Netherlands and Italy in the second semi-final.
