The runners-up of Greece’s top football league last year, Panathinaikos FC, will face Italian giants Roma AC in their first match of the UEFA Europa League phase in Athens, while PAOK FC will host Spanish club Real Betis in Thessaloniki in their opening match in the same competition.
Meanwhile, AEK Athens will open their European campaign against ACF Fiorentina from Italy in Florence in the UEFA Conference League phase.
The opponents of the three Greek clubs were revealed during the draw on Friday in Monte Carlo for the 2025/26 European club competition.
In detail, Panathinaikos FC will host Roma (Italy), Viktoria Plzen (Czechia), Sturm Graz (Austria), and Go Ahead Eagles (Netherlands), and travel to Feyenoord (Netherlands), Ferencvaros (Hungary), Young Boys (Switzerland), and Malmö (Sweden).
PAOK will host Real Betis (Spain), Maccabi (Israel), Young Boys (Switzerland), and Brann (Norway) in Thessaloniki, while traveling to face Lille (France), Lyon (France), Ludogorets (Bulgaria), and Celta Vigo (Spain).
AEK Athens will play against ACF Fiorentina (Italy) away, Shamrock Rovers (Ireland) at home, Celje (Slovenia) away, Aberdeen (Scotland) at home, Craiova (Romania) at home, and Samsunspor (Turkey) away.
The full fixture list, including dates and kickoff times, will be announced on Saturday, August 30.
The League Phase, part of UEFA’s second-tier club competition, kicks off on September 24–25, 2025, with the eighth and final matchday scheduled for January 29, 2026.
Yesterday, Greek champions Olympiacos Piraeus were drawn to play against Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid at home in Greece, followed by another favorite to win the title, Barcelona in Spain.
The other six teams that the popular Piraeus side will face are, in the following order, Germany’s Bayer 04 Leverkusen (home), Premier League side Arsenal (away), then the two top Dutch teams, PSV Eindhoven (home) and Ajax (away), and newcomer Pafos FC from Cyprus, at home. Olympiacos will conclude its League Phase run in an away game against FC Kairat, in far-off Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan.
