With Naxos and Syros setting the tone, Greece has secured a prominent place on a new global list spotlighting countries that deliver truly high-quality travel experiences. The ranking was published by the international financial and travel website moneycontrol.com, drawing attention to destinations that balance beauty, culture, and authenticity.
The outlet based its selection on the results of the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, which named the world’s 20 best countries. It then conducted extensive research to identify standout destinations within each country—places distinguished by vibrant local culture, rich heritage, and unspoiled natural landscapes.
Among 20 countries and 43 recommended regions across Europe, the Americas, Asia, Oceania, and Africa, Greece ranks second for 2026, represented by Naxos and Syros. According to moneycontrol.com, “This list is more than a numerical ranking; it is a glimpse into the future of travel. It proves that the world’s most beloved destinations are those that honor authenticity, sustainability, and have a true soul.”
Sun-drenched islands, whitewashed villages, and cuisine that speaks directly to the heart define Greece’s enduring appeal—an appeal rooted as much in warm hospitality as in natural beauty. Increasingly, travelers are seeking out hidden gems such as Naxos and Syros, where everyday local life continues to thrive and set the rhythm.
As reported by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), representatives of the two Greek destinations also weighed in on evolving travel trends. Ioannis A. Voutsinos, Deputy Mayor for Tourism of Syros–Ermoupoli, noted that “Syros has all the right ingredients to offer unique travel experiences beyond the peak season.”
Meanwhile, Vangelis Katsaras, Deputy Mayor for Tourism of Naxos and the Small Cyclades, emphasized the islands’ human scale: “In Naxos and the Small Cyclades, no one is treated as a mass tourist. The island of Ariadne offers the perfect balance of relaxation, leisure, recreation, rejuvenation, and spiritual enrichment, all within a captivating natural setting.”
