Greek Survivor contestant Stavros Floros has spoken for the first time after suffering severe injuries in a boating accident in the Dominican Republic.
“I spoke to my son on a regular phone call. The hospital did not allow video calls. He’s happy to be alive. That’s what he told me: ‘Mom, why should I be sad? I’m alive! We’ll deal with everything else later,’” said the mother of Stavros Floros, the Survivor contestant who was severely injured by the propeller of a tourist boat while spearfishing in the Dominican Republic during the filming of the reality survival show.
“We didn’t speak for very long because we didn’t want to tire him out, but he sounded well. We just need to get through today as well…” the 22-year-old’s mother added.
“One thing we learned is that the boys had a buoy with them. Apart from the buoy already there, the boys also had their own because it was both Manos and Stavros out there. There were two of them,” she explained.
She continued: “I searched for Manos’ parents and found his mother and brother. I truly want to speak to him as well and thank him so much.”
His father, meanwhile, explained that it took 40 minutes for his son to reach the hospital, during which time he was bleeding heavily and uncontrollably.
He added that his son has now completed all necessary surgeries and is currently in stable condition. The family is expected to travel to the Dominican Republic to be by his side and support him.
Once his medical condition allows it, doctors are reportedly considering transferring him by air ambulance to a specialized medical center in the United States.
