Wang Yi said China will send a special envoy to the Middle East to help mediate as the conflict in the region continues to escalate.

According to statements from China’s foreign ministry, Wang made the announcement during phone calls on Wednesday with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Calls for Restraint and Dialogue

During his conversation with the Saudi foreign minister, Wang said China appreciated Saudi Arabia’s restraint and its insistence on resolving differences through peaceful means.

Beijing has repeatedly called for dialogue as tensions intensify across the region.

Protection of Civilians and Infrastructure

In a separate call with the foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates, Wang stressed that the “red line” of protecting civilians must not be crossed.

He also warned that non-military targets should not be attacked, specifically highlighting infrastructure linked to energy.

Concern Over Shipping Security

Wang further called for the protection of shipping routes, underscoring concerns about the safety of maritime trade as the conflict expands.
