Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived at the Ayia Napa resort on Cyprus on Thursday evening to attend a working dinner of EU leaders hosted by Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, in the framework of an informal EU summit taking place on the east Mediterranean island republic.

In response to a press question, the Greek prime minister referred to the issue of a release of EU funds to support Ukraine.

He described the decision as an important step in the right direction, stressing that Europe has stood by Ukraine since the start of the war. Mitsotakis also underlined that such funding is essential to ensure the country continues to function as a proper state and maintain its defense capabilities, adding that the European Union has remained united over the past four years, overcoming obstacles to provide ongoing support.

The informal summit includes regional developments and key geopolitical challenges on its agenda.
