Australian authorities are investigating the shocking double murder of 39-year-old Greek-Australian Athena Georgopoulou and her 50-year-old partner, Andrew Gan, in the southeastern Melbourne suburb of Mount Waverley. Georgopoulou was pregnant at the time of her death.

Police have yet to confirm a motive, but Australian media reports suggest a dispute involving dogs may have sparked a confrontation between Gan and the alleged killer, 34-year-old homeless man Ross Judd. Neighbors said tensions had been visible between Judd and Gan, particularly concerning Gan’s German Shepherd, which rarely left his side. Judd himself owns two German Shepherds and was seen in the area with them, including on the night of the attack.

The murder was reportedly brutal, with Gan decapitated in the attack. Footage released shows Judd being arrested at Melbourne’s Westall railway station, about six kilometers from the crime scene, wearing the same blood-stained shirt he had on earlier while visiting a fast-food restaurant with his dogs.

Neighbors expressed shock and disbelief at the violence. One local, who knew Georgopoulou’s family, said she was devastated upon learning of the deaths. “It’s terrifying that something like this happened so close to us,” another neighbor added.

Authorities continue to investigate, and the case has drawn widespread attention in Melbourne and the broader Australian community.
