The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, has declared the end of the 12-day war with Israel. “Today, following the heroic resistance of our great nation, whose determination is writing history—we are witnessing the establishment of a ceasefire and the end of this 12-day war, which was imposed by Israel’s adventurism and provocation,” Pezeshkian said, according to Iran’s official news agency IRNA.
Both Iran and Israel have stated their intention to respect the ceasefire, provided that the other side does the same.
However, IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir emphasized that tensions remain high, stating, “We have completed an important chapter, but the campaign against Iran is not over.”
The halt in hostilities is widely believed to have been imposed under pressure from the United States, leaving considerable room for vagueness about the permanence of the ceasefire. It also remains unclear whether Iran will initiate nuclear negotiations with the U.S. in the aftermath.
While the war between Israel and Iran may have ended for now, the death toll continues to rise in Gaza. According to health authorities in the Gaza Strip, at least 870 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces during the Israel-Iran conflict.
For a brief moment, global attention shifted away from the famine and bombardments in Gaza, but the world’s focus is now returning to the humanitarian crisis unfolding there.
