Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis discussed the unfolding situation in the Middle East, maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and the future of NATO in a wide-ranging interview on Wednesday with CNN presenter Christiane Amanpour.

Mitsotakis expressed cautious optimism over recent developments, noting that Greece co-signed a joint statement welcoming the ceasefire and hoping that the current 15-day truce could lead to lasting peace. “We are optimistic,” he said, but stressed that a final ceasefire requires the cessation of all hostilities.
At the same time, he voiced serious concerns about the latest Israeli attacks in Lebanon, warning that continuing such operations may be counterproductive, potentially weakening the Lebanese government and giving Hezbollah a platform to respond. He added that ongoing strikes could escalate into a humanitarian crisis.
Regarding Athens’ relations with Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Mitsotakis emphasized the strategic partnership.
