Russia launched overnight attacks on seven oil and natural gas production facilities in eastern Ukraine, according to an announcement by state oil company Naftogaz.

Serhii Fedorenko, the Ukrainian company’s acting chairman and CEO, said Russia is systematically targeting Ukraine’s oil and gas sector in an effort to inflict maximum damage on the country’s infrastructure ahead of winter.

The strike was described as one of the most severe in recent months on facilities belonging to Ukrnafta, Ukraine’s largest oil company and a Naftogaz subsidiary.

According to the same statement, critical equipment has sustained damage.
