U.S. President Donald Trump gave an extensive interview on CBS News’ 60 Minutes, addressing foreign policy, domestic matters, and current international conflicts.
Venezuela
Trump stated the U.S. would not engage in a war with Venezuela. While criticizing Caracas for drug trafficking and past actions affecting the U.S., he emphasized that any military action would be unlikely. When asked if Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s days are numbered, Trump replied, “I would say yes. I think yes.”
Gaza Ceasefire and Israel
Regarding Gaza, Trump described the ceasefire he helped negotiate as stable, dismissing concerns about its fragility. He reiterated a threat to Hamas, stating the group could be “eliminated quickly” if it does not disarm.
Trump also highlighted his role in pressuring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to secure the ceasefire. He defended involvement in Netanyahu’s legal matters, arguing the prime minister has been treated unfairly.
Ukraine and Russia
On the war in Ukraine, Trump claimed the conflict began under President Joe Biden and would not have happened under his leadership. He contrasted his strategy with Russia, noting that trade with Russia is limited, and praised Russian President Vladimir Putin’s business intentions.
China and Nuclear Tests
Trump commented on U.S.-China relations, stating cooperation is possible and beneficial, rather than seeking confrontation. He also asserted that nuclear-armed countries, including Russia and China, conduct underground nuclear tests that remain largely undisclosed.
Immigration Enforcement
Trump defended the actions of U.S. immigration authorities, stating they have not gone far enough and arguing that strict enforcement is necessary to remove criminals and illegal entrants. He also ordered the National Guard deployed to five U.S. cities—Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Portland, Chicago, and Memphis—and said he would not hesitate to invoke the Insurrection Act if needed.
Domestic Politics and Economy
Trump blamed Democrats for the ongoing government shutdown, claiming Republicans are ready to end it. He also warned that the U.S. economy could suffer significantly if the Supreme Court overturns tariffs he imposed, a key part of his economic policy.
Third Term and 2028 Elections
On the possibility of a third presidential term, Trump stated he is not currently considering running but praised several Republican figures, including Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as potential 2028 candidates.
Trump’s interview combined foreign policy commentary, defense of past actions, and sharp criticism of domestic opponents, offering insight into his ongoing political priorities.
