Federal Agents Fatally Shoot Person in Minneapolis

The incident follows the deadly shooting of Renee Good by a federal officer earlier this month

U.S. Border Patrol officers shot and killed a person in Minneapolis Saturday, authorities said, in a city already on edge after the killing of a woman by a federal immigration agent two weeks ago.

The Homeland Security Department said the person shot approached officers with a handgun. “The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted,” Homeland Security said. “More details on the armed struggle are forthcoming.”

The person was pronounced dead on the scene, Homeland Security said.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz called Saturday’s shooting “horrific” and “sickening” on social media and said he was in contact with the White House.

“The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now,” Walz said.

Anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement protests have erupted in Minneapolis after a federal officer fatally shot the 37-year old American woman, Renee Good , in Minneapolis earlier this month.

On Friday thousands of Minnesotans marched in subzero temperatures against the immigration enforcement surge. In a separate demonstration that day, 100 clergy members were arrested at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, where they claimed planes were flying detained migrants out of the state as part of ICE’s operation.
