Greek singer Dimitris Kokotas, the son of legendary singer Stamatis Kokotas, died on Tuesday. He was 57.

Kokotas was hospitalized in Athens after suffering a heart attack during auditions for the television show “J2US” in 2024. He remained in a coma for more than two years before his death.

Throughout his career, Kokotas maintained a relatively low profile and was known among colleagues for his professionalism and dedication to music.

Several of his songs reached Greece’s Top 20 charts, while his albums were among the country’s top-selling releases at the time. He was also a popular nightclub performer during the 1990s.

Born in Athens in 1968, Kokotas was the son of Stamatis Kokotas, one of Greece’s most celebrated singers. His father supported him throughout his recording and performing career.

In the years before his heart attack, Kokotas largely stepped away from the public spotlight. He ran his own cafe in the Athens suburb of Neo Irakleio, and made only occasional public appearances.

Kokotas is survived by his wife, Katerina, and their daughter, Riana.

Details of his funeral have not yet been announced.
