Singer-songwriter Akylas has won Greece’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest and will represent the country in Vienna with his song Ferto, following a closely watched final decided by both juries and the public.
The winning track, composed by Akylas along with Papatanice and TEO.x3, and written by Orfeas Noni and Akylas, secured the top spot after combining viewer votes with scores from a Greek jury and an international jury. The voting breakdown gave 50% weight to the public, 25% to the Greek jury and 25% to the international panel.
This year’s Eurovision, the contest’s 70th edition, will take place in Vienna from May 12 to May 16. Greece will compete in the first half of the first semifinal on May 12, while Cyprus will appear in the second half of the second semifinal on May 14. The grand final is scheduled for May 16 at the Wiener Stadthalle.
The Greek final also celebrated the country’s Eurovision history, marking 20 years since Greece hosted the contest in Athens. The show featured tributes to past entries, including songs such as “Die For You” by Antique and a video homage to Helena Paparizou’s winning performance of My Number One.
Fourteen artists competed in the national final, performing a mix of pop and contemporary tracks. The event combined live performances with nostalgic segments highlighting memorable Greek moments in the contest.
With his victory, Akylas now prepares to take the Greek entry onto Europe’s biggest music stage in May.
