As part of its broader strategy to strengthen domestic film and television production, the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center (EKKOMED) announced on Wednesday a new partnership with Netflix. The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoU) aimed at enhancing Greece’s film and audiovisual ecosystem.
Under the agreement, Greek creators selected by EKKOMED will be able to train and upskill through Netflix’s Digital Educational Platform, leveraging global best practices and international expertise. The platform offers tailored thematic modules, video seminars, interviews, and exclusive sessions with leading creators and showrunners from around the world.
The MoU also establishes a framework for additional joint initiatives to support Greek creators, with specific actions to be agreed by Netflix and EKKOMED.
“This new partnership with Netflix brings Greece to the forefront by offering tools and opportunities to creators and unlocking even greater potential for the wider community,” said Deputy Culture Minister Iason Fotilas. He added that the government and the Culture Ministry are investing in a comprehensive support framework for creators and productions, while also strengthening incentives that attract international film and television projects to Greece.
EKKOMED CEO Leonidas Christopoulos described the agreement as a major milestone, noting that Netflix’s digital training platform will, for the first time, be accessible to a broad segment of Greece’s film and audiovisual community. He emphasized that the partnership would enhance the sector’s international reach and competitiveness.
Iole Maria Giannattasio, Netflix Director of Global Affairs for Italy and Greece, said the company remains committed to initiatives that cultivate talent, knowledge, and skills among creators worldwide.
Earlier this week, the Culture Ministry said that it had taken a significant step toward the creation of a National School of Cinematography and Audiovisual Media.
