As part of the Greek Culture Ministry’s nationwide initiative to improve the wellbeing of older citizens, the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens will host two rounds of 12 free sessions designed specifically for people over 60.
The program aims to reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms, strengthen emotional resilience, and foster social connection among seniors, ultimately helping ease feelings of isolation and loneliness.
This initiative falls under the ministry’s “Pilot Actions of Cultural Prescription”, part of the broader “Wellbeing (Ef Zin) for People 60+” program. It is funded through Greece’s recovery fund and implemented by the Research University Institute of Mental Health, Neurosciences, and Precision Medicine “Kostas Stefanis.”

The first cycle begins Thursday, September 18, with weekly meetings held at the Museum of Cycladic Art and participation is free of charge.
Over the course of the program, participants will work with mental health professionals and engage in activities that explore themes of mental wellbeing, emotional regulation, self-care, loss, and self-compassion. Art therapy techniques will be central to the sessions, highlighting the healing role of the arts in mental health.
This marks the second such initiative at the Museum, following a 2022 program focused on teenagers.
*Participation is free of charge. Meetings will be held at the Museum of Cycladic Art (1 Irodotou St, Athens) on Thursdays from 17:30 to 20:00. The first cycle starts on September 18.
