Fresh off the lighting of the central Christmas tree at Syntagma Square against a rainy backdrop, another beloved public space is stepping into the festive spotlight. Pedion tou Areos, one of Athens’ most cherished parks for locals and visitors, transforms today into a glowing Christmas Village, complete with its own illuminated tree and a month-long celebration of holiday magic.

The Christmas Village of the Attica Region, which welcomed more than one million visitors last year, opens once again with free admission. The festive gates lift on Friday, November 28, at 7 p.m., marking the beginning of a joyful season that will run through January 7, 2026.

The tree-lighting ceremony will be attended by the Regional Governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalias, today at 7 p.m., accompanied by an impressive light show. Immediately after, at 7:30 p.m., popular singer Thodoris Ferris and the dynamic Onemanshow will inaugurate the main music stage with a vibrant live performance full of energy, feel-good spirit and their biggest hits.

A few hours before the official opening, at 6 p.m., the beloved street band “Molivenioi Stratiotes” will take the first festive walk through the Village, filling the park with fresh, joyful renditions of Christmas classics.

As Regional Governor Nikos Hardalias stated:

“With great joy and even greater emotion, we open the gates of our Christmas Village in Pedion tou Areos for a second consecutive year. Last year, thousands of families filled our park with light, warmth and smiles—an embrace of love that was our greatest reward. This year, we return even more prepared, more creative, and more determined to offer an experience that is even more magical. The holidays remind us that despite challenges, there is always room for hope, for joy, for small miracles shared with the people we love. That is exactly what we want to create here—a park that glows, a city that smiles, an Attica with its heart open to everyone.”
