Greek officials and other public-office holders must file their “pothen esches” asset declarations by the end of October, with the online platform open since Monday, August 3.

The deadline is tied to the income tax filing season. Under Greek law, the declaration of assets, known as “Pothen Esches” (literally, “where did you get it from?”), must be submitted within three months of the deadline for individual income tax returns. This year’s tax returns closed on July 24, so the pothen.gr platform closes on October 24.

After filing on time, declarants can submit an amending declaration to correct errors or add omitted items. That option stays open for 30 days after the filing deadline. The original declaration must still be finalised by October 24, since the correction window is not an extension of the normal deadline.

The list of people required to file has grown significantly in recent years and covers many categories in the public, political, judicial and private sectors.

Declarants are told to check the contents carefully before final submission. Particular attention is needed for data pulled from banks and financial institutions: all bank accounts in which the declarant is a beneficiary or joint beneficiary should appear, with the amounts recorded correctly.
